This course is designed to provide an in-depth exploration of one of the fundamental topics in Osteopathy: intraosseous lesions.
When we refer to intraosseous lesions, we mean dysfunctions that develop within a portion of a bone—whether long, short, or flat—independently of fractures.
Just one millimetre before a bone fractures, intraosseous lesions can develop. These lesions may lead to the formation of an internal bony callus, which can either be reabsorbed or remain within the bone for a lifetime. There are two main types of intraosseous lesions: trauma-related lesions and overload-related lesions.
In most cases, these lesions result from a direct trauma that does not produce an actual fracture. For this reason, intraosseous techniques are particularly valuable—not only in sports traumatology but also in injury rehabilitation. These techniques begin with an assessment of the bone’s density to identify the lesion, followed by the application of a precise point of support that allows the bone to activate its inherent regenerative processes.
The course consists of 16 hours of training and includes both theoretical and practical components. The theoretical section provides an in-depth understanding of intraosseous lesions, covering their osteopathic definition, scientific explanation, and the various possible causes.
The practical section is entirely dedicated to intraosseous techniques. Each technique, specific to a particular region of the body, follows a structured clinical protocol that includes patient and practitioner positioning, diagnostic tests for lesion identification, bone density assessment, and the application of the appropriate treatment technique.
